Urko Ochoa es el socio encargado del área de Propiedad Intelectual de MINIÑO Abogados. Su práctica abarca todos los aspectos relativos a la Propiedad Intelectual en República Dominicana y Caribe con un enfoque particular en la protección, comercialización y defensa de marcas y patentes y en el asesoramiento estratégico en proyectos de búsqueda, auditoría (due dilligence) y registro multi-jurisdiccionales así como en litigios transfronterizos.

Tras trabajar durante 4 años en una prestigiosa firma en España especializada en litigios y antipiratería y obtener la acreditación como Agente de la Propiedad Industrial ante la Oficina Española de Patentes y Marcas por oposición, en 2003 pasó a formar parte de la oficina de Alicante de la firma internacional Hogan Lovells, en donde fundó la práctica de Propiedad Intelectual para España. Durante esos años tramitó numerosos asuntos relativos a Marcas y Diseños de la Unión Europea y españoles para clientes internacionales además de estar involucrado en distintos proyectos de registro, litigios y transacciones a nivel internacional, siendo reconocido en la guía European Legal Experts.

En 2008, decidió trasladarse a República Dominicana (país de origen de su esposa) e incorporarse al equipo de MINIÑO Abogados para dirigir el departamento de Propiedad Intelectual, al que aporta los conocimientos derivados de su experiencia de trabajo en despachos de gran prestigio para empresas multinacionales en sistemas jurídicos altamente desarrollados en la materia, todo lo cual constituye una ventaja única para la práctica de la firma.

La labor desempeñada por Urko ha sido reconocida por las guías especializadas de manera consistente durante los últimos años, siendo mencionado como experto en República Dominicana en WTR1000 (Gold Tier), WIPR Leaders, Chambers Global, Legal 500, Who's Who y ILO Client Choice Award.

Al mismo tiempo, Urko participa activamente en la Asociación Internacional de Marcas (INTA), donde ha sido presidente del Comité de Marcas Famosas y Notorias y ha participado en varios equipos de proyecto y ponencias. Actualmente es miembro del Consejo Asesor Global para América Latina y el Caribe.
